Experience
I earned my B.A. in Geosciences at Louisiana Tech University and my M.A. in Geosciences at Arizona State University. Since 2006 I have been an educator and professional geoscientist, dividing my time between consulting in environmental geology and editing research papers in my field. I earned the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service in 2012 for my work in humanitarian water resources with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Prior to this I did work at the Arizona Department of Water Resources.During my undergraduate years I focused heavily on physics and astronomy as well, though my recent jobs have been in the field of environmental sciences. I enjoyed my education the most when I was able to teach - in addition to teaching introductory geology and physics labs, I worked various nontraditional educator jobs like running planetarium shows. I prepared and led educational trips throughout Arizona and the surrounding areas when I worked with ASU Explore!, which was particularly rewarding because I was able to teach outside. I have experience tutoring students individually and in groups in various areas of science as well.I currently live in the San Francisco area, where I generally spend my time outside with my dog doing things like cycling, camping, backpacking, and hiking. I also enjoy reading and singing.
